End The Cycle zamelde geld in door een combinatie van subsidies, campagnes op sociale media en stickerverkoop. Awan zei dat de beurzen en onderscheidingen de groep hielpen om het bewustzijn in de gemeenschap te vergroten, wat meer individuele donaties opleverde.
"We wisten al vroeg dat we steun nodig hadden, en als we subsidies zouden kunnen krijgen, dan kunnen we onmiddellijk een duwtje in de richting van het doel krijgen", zei Awan. “We hebben de gewonnenTEDxUofM-subsidie, wat super groot was voor ons. … Daarvoor moesten we op het podium spreken, en dat stelde ons in staat om veel bekendheid te krijgen over het project, en daar kregen we veel donaties van. We hebben ook de U-M Medical School gewonnenGalens Medical Societystudiebeurs."
LSA-tweedejaars Archita Girmannagari was de leider van deTEDxUofMsubteam dat End the Cycle heeft geselecteerd als de winnaar van de Award for Innovation, een subsidie van $ 1.000 die jaarlijks wordt uitgereikt aan een lid of organisatie van de UM-gemeenschap. "We zijn nog niet klaar," zei Awan. “We weten dat (de donatie) niet de oorzaak van voedselonzekerheid aanpakt. … Enkele volgende stappen zijn het opzetten van voedselbanken in (lokale) scholen, en we willen werken aan het creëren van een online database waar mensen de scholen kunnen zien die de meeste hulp nodig hebben bij het wegwerken van die lunchschuld, zodat ze direct kunnen doneren.
Azeeza zei dat ze gelooft dat het opzetten van voedselbanken op scholen de grootste impact op de lange termijn zou hebben, een project dat End the Cycle in de toekomst zou willen nastreven.
"Er zijnvoedselbankenin Ann Arbor, maar het is niet zo toegankelijk als een voedselvoorraadkamer in de school, 'zei Azeeza. “Het zal de families enorm helpen. Kinderen … kunnen gewoon naar de voorraadkast, boodschappen halen, in hun rugzak stoppen en naar huis gaan. Het is veel toegankelijker dan een voedselbank.”
